Hazard files and scenarios

Source of information on hazards

Information is systematically collected on each hazard covered in the National Risk Analysis «Disasters and Emergencies Switzerland» (DES) and compiled in a 'hazard file'. The structure of the content is always the same regardless of the type of hazard involved, namely:

  • Definition
  • Historical examples
  • Impact factors
  • Scenario intensity
  • Scenario
  • Impact
  • Risk diagram
  • Legal foundations
  • Further information

Foundations and references

Each file systematically maps out a scenario, which provides an overview of how an event could unfold. They draw heavily on known historical events and, at the same time, factor in possible future developments. The description pays particular attention to the likely negative impact arising directly from the given loss event.

Existing hazard files

The FOCP has compiled the following 44 hazard files and scenarios for KNS 2020.

Hazard files are public and available in German, French and Italian.
