Civil protection system
Mission
Switzerland's national interests determine the civil protection security policy mission. Article 2 of the Federal Constitution clearly states that the Swiss Confederation protects the freedom and the rights of the people, and the independence and security of the country. This includes fostering the common good, and the internal cohesion and cultural variety of the country, promoting equal opportunities for the citizens wherever possible, and ensuring the sustainable conservation of vital resources.
Structure
Civil protection is an integrated management, protection, rescue and relief system.
Partner organisations
The civil protection system must ensure that the five partner organisations: the police, the fire, health care and technical services, as well as the CPO cooperate effectively.
Civil protection organisation (CPO)
The CPO, an additional civil protection organisation, cares for persons in need of protection, and supports the partner organisations over longer periods of time.
International cooperation
In order to be well prepared for all eventualities, it is essential to closely monitor international developments, formulate bilateral and multilateral measures and share expertise and experience across borders.
