The ‘Coordination Body for Civil Protection Training and Exercises’ (COORDEX)

COORDEX, the coordination body for civil protection training and exercises, coordinates training activities and large-scale exercises within Switzerland's civil protection network.

Purposes

The ‘Coordination Body for Civil Protection Training and Exercises’ (COORDEX) is responsible for coordinating training and large-scale exercises within the civil protection network, in accordance with Article 22, para. 1 of the Civil Protection Act (BZG).

The findings from the exercises are passed on in reports to the Swiss Security Network (SSN), synergies are examined and new offerings proposed to improve the quality of training in the civil protection system.

By contrast, Strategic Leadership Exercises (SLEs) and the Swiss Security Network Exercises (SNEs) are carried out in accordance with the Federal Council's guidelines.

Organisation

COORDEX consists of a steering committee and two working groups ('Exercise' and 'Training'). The chair and secretariat are based at the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP).

The work is carried out at the operational level. The Basic Organisation for Crisis Management (BCMO) is a permanent member of COORDEX to ensure coordination and information flow.

Exchange platform

The electronic platform is a central database that connects experts and coordinators involved in training and exercises. The platform facilitates the exchange of knowledge, experience, resources and good practice, which helps improve coordination among all stakeholders.
