Managing an exceptional situation caused by large-scale flooding, power shortage or earthquakes, for example, is a major challenge for the communities affected. The cantonal, regional and communal crisis management teams quickly require additional personnel and equipment.

Support coordination at federal level

The Federal NBCN crisis management board coordinates operations at national level in the event of nuclear, biological and chemical incidents. The board uses Resources Management at Federal Level (ResMaB) of the Federal Office of Civil Protection (FOCP) to allocate resources to the cantons rapidly and exactly where they are needed. In exceptional situations ResMaB is used to coordinate the deployment of available resources by linking assistance requests with the assistance that is available. Its partners are cantonal management bodies, federal authorities, operators of critical infrastructures, private enterprises, foreign governments and international organisations.
